Always keep working on destroying all debris to keep it to minimum.
Collect powerup points:

Always power up your main gun to the next level.
Use super bombs wisely:

Use slightly after start of levels when a lot of items are on screen
to wipe out masses of objects to collect powerups quickly. Also keep
a couple spares to use in case of emergency.
Use re-spawn after dying wisely:

When you respawn you destroy everything in the area (almost as
powerful as a super bomb) so time it wisely to destroy masses of enemies.
